Please share a memory of Patricia Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia Anna Cyphert, 80, of Morgantown, died Sunday, June 21, 2020, at Sundale Nursing Home. The first of four daughters, she was born March 31, 1940, to Willard and Twila Helmick, at their home. She was a graduate of Morgantown High School and Morgantown Beauty College. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved watching her children and grandchildren play basketball and baseball and spent many chilly spring evenings at track meets. She also followed WVU football and basketball -- from the stands at Old Mountaineer Field, Milan Puskar Stadium and the Coliseum and then on TV in more recent years. Once she and Ed started their family, Patricia did not work outside the home, but she did plenty to run the household -- as housekeeper, gardener, chef, taxi driver, nurse, teacher and professional mama. Called Mom C by many, she was known for her cooking -- welcoming many crowds in for summer picnics, Sunday dinners and just the average weeknight supper. She was also known for her baked goods -- everything from breads and pepperoni rolls to lady fingers and wedding cakes. Her kitchen became Patty Cake Bakery as she made hundreds of cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, First Communion celebrations and more. She turned one stall of the home garage into a wood-working shop and began making items -- large and small -- to decorate her home and to give as gifts. She had a green thumb, growing vegetables in the summer and flowers and plants throughout the year. She was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Hospitality and Welcome Committee, founder of the church's prayer chain and volunteer for many events. She loved holidays, especially Christmas, when she turned her sunroom into a winter room with hundreds of mechanical figures, village pieces and musical features. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ed Cyphert; five children: JoAnna Cyphert, Pam Queen (Lee), Donna Kelley (Tom), Lori Cyphert and Ed Cyphert (Melissa), all of Morgantown; 13 grandchildren: Kayla McCormick (Nathan), Hannah Queen, Maria Kelley and fiance Danny Holbert, Shannon Kelley, Francine Anthony (Josh), Adrianne Williamson (Tony), Alexis Solly (Jonathan), Abby, Eddie, Sam, Emma, Elizabeth and Henry Cyphert; and eight great-grandchildren: Eythen, Arwen, Erin, Julia, Harper Grace, Landon, Davin and JP. She is also survived by three sisters, Dixie Petro, Sandra Figiel and Terry Jones, all of Morgantown; and a special niece, Erica Cyphert, also of Morgantown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 19 Jo Glen Drive, Morgantown, WV 26508. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Luke's with the Rev. Biju T. Devassy as celebrant. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be open to immediate family only. Burial will be at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens.
