Richard Riley was the best Department of Education Secretary of the United States ever, and worked relentlessly to strengthen and equalize education in America among all children by placing emphasis and robust funding and support in research and development which identified fruitful alternative assessments in education. The assessments had a long-term impact on children of color in particular, from low-income communities. It helped to raise their success level, exponentially. I just wish I could have told him how his decisions added to the value of life of young people who were on the sidelines of society. Dick Riley was a special human being, who did the right thing by placing all children as a priority!
